5 Reasons To Choose The Walnut App

November 17, 2020Blog

Launched by Amit Bhor and Patanjali Somayaji in 2014, Walnut is a fully-automated expense tracking manager catering Indian users. The app enables users to monitor their expenses, bank accounts, bill alerts, and keep a tab on their finances. The app also helps users prepare monthly budgets and empowers them to be more financially disciplined.

Walnut is a user-friendly app that is quick and straightforward to set up. One can download it from the Google Play Store and register by selecting the preferred Gmail account. The application then selectively scans text messages for bank or wallet transaction alerts and tracks spends without requiring manual intervention. In order to protect the privacy of our users, any communication from a 10-digit phone number and OTPs are never processed by the app.

Here are the top five reasons for choosing Walnut:

Money manager

Walnut is the most comprehensive daily expense tracker to automatically and securely track spends. The app equips users to stay within their budget and save more each month. A quick glance on the home screen is enough to give you an idea of where your money is going, which bills are due and how much income you earn*. The app tracks all expenses, including netbanking transactions, debit/credit card spends and digital wallet payments. The app uses machine learning to automatically categorize spends into various buckets such as bills, shopping, grocery, entertainment, etc.

Bank balances and bill reminders

Walnut enables users to check their latest balance across all their bank accounts. One can also change the bank balance visibility by either locking the app or hiding only the bank balance section. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. tap on the user icon on the top right corner
  2. select ‘App Preferences’
  3. tap on ‘Backup & Security
  4. tap on ‘App lock setting’
  5. choose either ‘Hide Bank Balance Only’ or ‘Lock Application’, as required.

The app even reminds you of your upcoming credit card, postpaid and utility bills automatically. So you never have to pay late fees again, and avoid the anxiety associated with missing out on bill due dates.

Income/Credits tracking

Now you can also check how much money you’re making with the upcoming income and credit transactions tracking feature. Like most parts of the app, this feature is also fully automated. Transactions made to your own accounts are not considered as valid credits, so you’ll get an accurate picture of your finances.

This is one of our most requested feature and it closes the loop on holistic personal finance management. For any feature requests, please feel free to write to us at help@getwalnut.com.

*the Income/Credit transactions feature is currently being rolled out and is expected to be available to all our users within the next few weeks

Split common expenses

The app’s bill split feature allows users to split their shared expenses with friends & family. One can either split spends in a common group, or secretly keep a tab of how much one owes or is owed using the private mode. This feature is very useful in splitting common expenses after a dinner, movie, trip or among roommates, flats and colleagues.
